Windows Update: 2nd Tuesday of the month is here

Like clockwork, the second Tuesday of the month is here. That means it’s time for Patch Tuesday (the time of the month when Microsoft automatically pushes updates to you).

This month there were a significant number of security and performance related updates for Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. On my Windows 8.1 system, even with a fast internet connection it took close to an hour to to the updates.

Go to your Start Menu >> Control Panel >> (System and Security ) >> Windows Update >> Check for Updates . Install every update that it tells you to. If you have never checked for these Updates before, your computer SHOULD install them within a few days. However, if you have ever checked for the updates based on my instructions in the past, I like to have you manually trigger the updates again.

If your Windows Updates fail, go back and do them again. If they still fail, try a third time. Occasionally Windows Updates give us hiccups. If you are still getting a notification that Updates failed after 3 tries, then it would be good to contact me for an appointment.

** Also, I know some of you Windows users are getting up there in age and yearn for simpler devices. If you ever feel that Windows is too complicated for you there is a Chromebook (laptop) or Chrome Box (desktop) that runs Google’s Chrome operating system and will meet your needs for simplicity basic internet, email, shopping, online banking with ease.
