Attn Verizon customers – FYI on the Selects program
This is going out to the clients whom I know are Verizon cellular customers. Please feel free to share this with your friends and family who are also Verizon customers.
I am simply going to provide the information – and you can choose whether you want to opt in or opt out.
Long story short — Verizon is starting the Verizon Selects program. This program will allow you to earn loyalty points simply by being a Verizon customer, paying your bill on time, etc. You can use these points for future discounted equipment with Verizon, discounted dining and travel as well. Again, this is all managed by Verizon, not 3rd party company. However, free is never really free. In order to to do this, you have to agree let Verizon collect non-personally identifiable data about you. For example, this may be the websites you visit, the location you make phone calls to and from, along with other data. Verizon (ATT, Tmobile, etc). already have this info on their customers.
Here is the info on the program https://www.verizonwireless.com/support/terms/products/verizon-selects.html
You really have two ways to go on this —
1) You will think, they have this info anyway, I don’t care if they share it with their subsidiaries and partners. Plus, I will get bonuses for being a loyal customer.
2) This really creeps me out, get me out of here!
I chose #2 for myself and my family. I have opted not to allow Verizon to use my CPNI (customer information) for marketing purposes. If you are in the same boat, you need to call Verizon to opt out of the Verizon Selects program and the sharing of your CPNI (CPNI sharing has been in effect for several years). 1-800-922-0204 or dial *611 from your Verizon phone.
