Apple has come out with so many new product or technology announcements this week its as if Ford came out with new models for each of their cars and all of the changes were revolutionary. My head is still spinning — but this is a good thing.
One of the changes they are making is that they are doing away with the (entry level) white MacBook laptop that sold for $999. That sub $1000 price point was major factor in causing people (especially people with children) to buy it. The MacBook sported a 13.3 inch screen — what I consider the minimum size to be able to get work done on a regular basis. What I am saying is this laptop had the potential of being your every day, full time computer. It is the model I am typing this message on right now.
The successor, for lack of a better term, to this product is the 13 inch MacBook Pro. It has an aluminum exterior and will sell for $1199 ($200 more). Apple is still offering a $999 laptop but it is the 11.6 inch MacBook Air. You would have to see it in person, but I think this size is far too small for day in and day out work, so you would be forced to buy a monitor to hook up to the laptop pushing the cost very close to the $1199 price for the standard size MacBook Pro.
As a former bartender, I am saying this is LAST CALL on a standard size MacBook laptops for less than $1000.
Apple is still selling them through the DEALS section of their website and I think they should be available for the next month, perhaps two. If you are in the market, check this page daily as the specials will always change.
Apple’s refurbished units are typically returns or cancelled orders. I have ordered from this section 4 or 5 times in the past and have NEVER been disappointed. I have never received a blemished product. All units ship with the new Apple factory warranty and you are allowed, of course, to buy the Apple Care extended warranty if you so choose ( a great idea in my opinion).
